5 Essential Maintenance Steps for RayTools Laser Cutting Heads

Prevent optical damage and sensor capacitor failures in your BM111 and BM115 heads with this weekly check routine.

5 Essential Maintenance Steps for RayTools Laser Cutting Heads

Fiber laser cutting heads operate in harsh environments filled with copper dust, molten spatter, and gas pressure. To maintain accuracy and prevent expensive focus lens burns, follow these five steps:

1. Inspect the Protective Window Daily

Remove the lens drawer in a clean room or enclosed environment. Check for dust, pitting, or burn spots. Replace immediately if any spot is visible.

2. Check the Ceramic Ring Conductivity

Ceramic rings break or collect carbon dust. A cracked ceramic ring causes the height sensor to drift, crashing the nozzle into the metal sheet.

3. Monitor Nozzle Center Position

Perform a tape-shot test daily. Align the nozzle bore precisely with the optical center of the laser beam to avoid uneven cuts and melting edges.

4. Use High-Purity Assist Gases

Ensure your Nitrogen purity is at least 99.999% and Oxygen is 99.95%. Water or moisture in assist gas lines will instantly fog the protective lens.
